This drive is prone to have the head stepper motor stuck due to rubber limiting bands disintegrating into a goo dirty substance. This can be repaired by removing the motor magnets section and cleaning the dirt. There is a chance the drive will work. My drive started working and it showed some errors, but it was possible to recover most of the data from it.

A good idea is to replace the drive with a modern SCSI emulator. I did not manage to make BlueSCSI working with Stacy – it has problems with termination and power and did not want to properly boot. I was successful with SCSI2SD v6. The parameters required are: enable Map LUNS to SCSI IDs and disable both: SCSI terminator and parity.

Capacitors List

When replacing capacitor please pay close attention to the dimensions of the original axial ones. Replace them with capacitors that are not thicker or you may discover trouble at a late stage of reassembling the machine, with fitting the board screens or covers.

Reassembly

Atari Stacy is one of the most frustrating machines to disassemble and reassemble. In order to disassemble the cover of the computer, the LCD screen needs to be first open and screen removed. A detailed instructions can be found on Andres’ Vintage Computers Blog.
