Philips Discoverer TV

Resources

This TV model number is 14GR1220/22B but it goes by the popular name Philips Discoverer. The story tells it was designed in 1983 to celebrate the NASA’s 1st space shuttle launch in 1981.

The TV has a “live chassis” design – it does not have separation transformer between the mains and TV circuitry. There is only RF input available, which is additionally isolated from the TV electronics. Adding extra inputs or outputs, like composite or headphones, is not an easy task, due to the need of isolation.
