Elwro 523

Wiki

Elwro 523 is an unusual machine that came in a form of a full-sized iron work desk, which housed a rather obsolete 8-bit computer based on Intel 8255 CPUs. It was equipped with two 8″ Floppy Disk Drives, from a Hungarian factory MOM Budapest. The computer was modular and consisted of several boards plugged into a chassis.

This technology was entirely obsolete when the computer was manufactured in 1985. Even more obscure was the over-engineered heavy and rough iron desk frames, especially the housing for the computer chassis and power supply units. This was completed with an overweight Robotron 1152 printer and an ignition lock with a key identical to the one in Fiat 126p. The entire machine must easily weigh over a hundred kilograms, however I am missing a proper scale to weigh it.

I am not in a possession of the floppies needed to boot the machine. It seems to be starting fine, but I am not certain the floppy disk controller and the drives are operational.

Documents

I have access to the complete documentation of this machine, however I don’t have the permission to publish it. If you need it, please contact me and let’s see what can be arranged.
